Se cuenta que Vince Clarke compuso esta canción mientras todavía pertenecía a la banda Depeche Mode, y se la ofreció al grupo antes de abandonarlos, pero ellos la rechazaron. En 1982 éste sería el primer single del recién formado dúo Yazoo, integrado por Clarke y la cantante Alison Moyet, con el que alcanzarían un éxito inmediato. Desde entonces, estuvo siempre presente en las maletas de los Dj’s como una de las grandes del género “canción de fin de fiesta”.
